This year, The Sea of Anarchy Yacht Club had two boats entered in the Coastal Cup, La Adriana and Merilon

Due to construction in Santa Barbara Harbor, this year's destination was changed to Ventura Yacht Club

On La Adriana, Dudley and Elise were ready to go. The gear was stowed in the after cabin. The crew piled into La Adriana, and Elise drove to the line as Lisa showed Teresa the ropes. We passed a tallship at anchor, the bellows of the crew in the rigging amusing Lisa and Teresa. Things started out well with a good start and 24 hours of superb sailing. Then the wind died. After about 18 hours of no wind, while sitting in thick fog, and hearing a fog horn nearing, we decided that the prudent thing was to start the motor and get out of there. So, we changed our course to Monterey, where Lane was able to go up the mast to untangle the burgees. The crew found its appetite at a waterfront pub and did some sight seeing.

We timed out return to SF Bay to coincide with the arrival of the tall ships. It seemed as if everybody was there. We ran into Nakia and they snapped the following pictures:

Merilon's crew started 15 minutes after La Adriana. They were close on La Adriana's heels as they got outside the Golden Gate. While Captain Michael stayed close to his glamour girl, the veteran Pacific Cup crew got into sea mode. Some were more excited than others. Alas, Merilon's race ended around the same time that La Adriana threw in the towel, and they headed into San Simeon.

Return to Port.
